Texture Practice

Go to your closet and feel your clothes. This is how you can determine what textures are most appealing to you, and start to become aware of your personal taste. Do you prefer the smooth, shiny surfaces of silk or polished cotton? Are there a lot of garments with nubby, thick fabrics? Do you prefer rough or slick surfaces?

Now practice being an artist and add a band of texture to this vase to create an interesting contrast to the smooth surface.

F.Y.I.--When an area of heavy texture is next to an area of smooth texture, it creates an interesting “foil” which means, each makes the other more pronounced.
